We need to control our words before we speak. Therefore, we need the Holy Spirit to help us.
SCRIPTURE
James 3:1-18
MEMORY VERSE
Proverbs 18:21
MEMORY VERSE
The tongue has the power of life and death,
and those who love it will eat its fruit.
Proverbs 18:21
AGES: 2-5 YEARS
Story time
● Read the memory verse, Proverbs 18:21 out; loud to them.
Craft activity:
Materials: Blank paper preferably white, a scissor and the colour red.
• Step 1: cut the paper in form of a tongue. Make two tongues
• Step 2: colour one tongue in red and leave the other one white.
• Step 3: present the two tongues
The white tongue is called the good tongue and the one in red is called the bad tongue.
With the good tongue the person always thinks before he/she says something and the bad tongue doesn’t care about what he/she says, and always find he/herself in trouble.
Prayer:
Ask the Holy spirit to help you to control your tongue. Say Holy Spirit I give you my tongue today.
Key word:
• Taming your tongue: it means to control your tongue or to guide your tongue.
AGES: 6-13 YEARS
Read the scripture more than twice for better understanding:
• What is the main message from the scripture that we just read?
• How often do you speak mean things to others?
• How do you think we can be able to control our tongue?
Read carefully the verse in bracket before answering the following by writing: “agree” or “disagree”.
• As Christians our tongue can only bless. (James 3:9)
• A rudder is a small but controls the ships direction. (James 3:4)
• A fountain can give bitter and fresh water at the same time. (James 3:11)
• The tongue can be tamed. (James 3:2,8)
• A small fire can cause a forest to burn down. (James 3:5)
• We stumble in many ways with what we say. (James 3:2)
Craft Activity:
We request parents to assist with this activity:
Materials: 2 papers, water in a cup and matches
Step 1: Light the first paper
It represents a tongue that doesn’t have control at all, it says anything and hurts people.
• When you are angry what words do you say to yourself, your friends, siblings, schoolmates etc.
• It’s also says bad things about him/herself like: I am stupid, I am such an idiot, I am such a fool, I am dumb….
Step 2: Dip the second paper in water then try to light the paper.
This tongue has control because the Holy spirit helps all time and he knows the word of God.
Even if this person is angry, he doesn’t say mean things to his friends or siblings and always thinks before he says something.
