God wants us to have self-control and for this to happen, we need to be people of the word of God.

Like a city whose walls are broken through is a person who lacks self-control.

Proverbs 25:28

AGES: 2-5 YEARS

Story time 
● Read the story and explain to the kids what happened to Jesus.
●Tell them, that Jesus won this because God lives in Him, He knows the words and He keeps the word in His heart.
●Review the fruit of the Holy Spirit and repeat together.

AGES: 6-13 YEARS

Read the scriptures at least twice then brainstorm examples of self-control.
 
Questions:
1. According to your understanding what do you think will happen to a person who doesn’t have self-control?
2. In the bible there were people who lacked self-control and they ended up sinning against God. Identify the bible character that lacked self-control by reading the following:
o Because of lack of self-control she ate a piece of the fruit from the tree forbidden by God
o Because of lack of self-control he ate the fruit as well.
o Because of lack of self-control and jealousy he killed his brother.
o Because of lack self-control they complained in the wilderness to Moses
.3. Write in your own words a summary of Matthew 4:1-11
4. What is a common thing that Jesus always repeats in his response and what can we learn from that?
5. In what area do you need self-control?

Maybe you have a hard time keeping your hands to yourself when you are angry or frustrated about something.
o Do you hit, push, kick?
o Is it your tongue?
o Do you complain a lot?
o Do you use hurtful language?

What about your free time?
o Do you help around the house and do your homework?
o Do you lack self-control and spend too much time on the computer, playing video games, watching TV etc.?
