courage of conviction

Courage doesn't mean you don't get afraid,  it means you don't let fear stop you.  Fear resides more in our minds than in reality. If you think you will not, you are right you will not. If you think you can, you are right you can.

Fear is always caused by a limited revelation of:

    • God- those who know their God will be strong and do mighty exploits
    • God's love- true love casts out fear. Why would God give Jesus and yet not want to take care of you.
    • God's power-Fear will always cut short what you want to do.

Gehazi (Elisha’s servant) had gone out to relieve himself but ran back inside after seeing the Syrian army.  All of us see but we see differently. Elisha prayed for Gehazi's spiritual eyes to be opened. The more you know God's power the more courageous you become.

Faith is about knowing who is backing you. Settle in your spirit, if God is with me who can be against me.

Effects of fear

    • It sets you in anxiety- anxiety stops creativity and innovation.
    • Bondage
    • Ensnarement

Some subtle fears

    • Fear of blending in/marginalised
    • Fear of rejection

The root of lying is fear

Moses: Four acts of courage

Hebrews 11:23-28

1) Courage to rely & trust on divine providence

God knows what He is doing [Some values and virtues go from generation to generation (Moses learnt it from parents)].  Pharaoh gave an edict that all sons should be killed.  The parents saw the child and saw that he was not ordinary- he was a prince. A prince needs to be respected and honoured.  They went against the edict of Pharaoh because though he was divinity they knew God was greater.  The god of the Nile River was the leading god in Egypt, they were showing trust in God's ability to make this god work out God's plan.

Divine providence at work

The basket was placed exactly where the princess was to bathe

    • Moses cries when the right person came
    • The princess knew he was a Jewish boy but though a decree was there she brought
    • Miriam was close by and she was asked to find a mother
    • Moses' mother was given a paid job to look after her own child
