God our Father

Hits: 599
God addressed Himself as God (in the Old Testament) and not as a Father to the Israelites. The covenant had been broken and needed restoration. Jesus had to appear on earth and die for us in order to have us restored in relationship with God as our Father. We can call God Abba Father because His Spirit is in us and bears witness with our spirit that we are His sons. God is a Father and He gives good gifts to His children. He gave you salvation which is the most important thing in life, we didn't ask for it but He gave it to us. Our lives should be lives of continual thanksgiving daily. God gave Himself to us through Jesus Christ who died on the Cross for us. God gave His Son; the Son gave the Holy Spirit. We have the three in one God in us; Father, Son & Holy Spirit

Sermon: God our Father

God is a Father.  He has a Son - Jesus Christ
Genesis 3:15

God announced His grace right at the beginning.
Even though there was judgment, God opened the door for salvation, for his creation to be saved, and that is grace.

When Adam fell in the beginning, man sinned, and the covenant between him and God was broken. Because God is Father, He always had a plan to restore the relationship with His children.  Fellowship between God and man had been broken.
- God had to work towards restoration of the relationship. His plan was to do this in the fullness of time.

God chose men to work in ushering the restoration plan those were Abraham, Moses and David.

Genesis 12 - God appeared to Abraham as God and not as Father. God's original plan was a Father and son relationship.

Exodus 3:6, 18 - God addressed Himself as God and not as a Father to the Israelites. The covenant had been broken and needed restoration.

Moses

  • Deuteronomy 18:15, Acts 7:37
  • Moses knew God as God but not as Father

David

  • Psalm 110:1, Matthew 22:41-45
  • David understood that the first Lord was God and the second was Jesus even at that time. Still God had not revealed the Father Son relationship to Him.
  • God hadn't revealed the revelation of Him as Father to them.

There are times in life you have to make shifts as God requires. When Peter was shown vision of a cloth with different animals and told to eat, he refused because of being caught up in
- God is a God of shift. He is on a constant move. He is big. Don't be afraid to be great.
Your level of faith should allow God to open His ears to listen to what you have to say.

Galatians 4:4-6

Hearing God clearly is important.

  • Between God speaking and your reception there might be interference, key is about hearing properly. God stands on that which He has said before and He accomplishes it.
  • Verse 6: We can call God Abba Father because His Spirit is in us and bears witness with our spirit that we are His sons.
  • Jesus had to appear on earth and die for us in order to have us restored in relationship with God as our Father.

Instances where Jesus addressed God as Father

  • Luke 2:48-51 - In verse 49 Jesus was talking about God to His parents as His Father.

  • John 2:13-16 - to the leaders
  • John 11:41 - to the followers
  • Luke 23:34, 46 - to God’s enemies

Our lives should be lives of continual thanksgiving daily. God gave Himself to us.

    • Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past.
    • Even if you had issues with your biological fathers, God wants you to be healed. The anointing of God's sets free. You will then be able to relate to God as Father.
